WHAT: Release party for "The Fracking of Sandoval County"

WHEN: Saturday November 17th

5 PM – 8 PM

WHERE: Sanitary Tortilla Factory

401 2nd St SW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87102

On Saturday, Nov.17th, from 5pm-8pm, Sanitary Tortilla Factory and We Are One River will host a release party for 'The Fracking of Sandoval County,' a comic book documenting the epic and ongoing struggle between oil and gas developers and local NM communities. Down-home Dine' cooking by caterer Cleo Otero and the musical stylings of Eileen & The In-Betweens will round out the evening.

The 24-page hand-illustrated book chronicles developments and public meetings surrounding the creation and adoption of a fracking ordinance in Sandoval County, and is designed to raise awareness of the issues and invite both discussion and participation by the public at large. Artist, Larry Bob Phillips, and writer, Mark LeClaire will be on hand for a community conversation about the issues. The ordinance itself is a response to pending applications to frack in Rio Rancho Estates. "I was struck by how quietly this whole thing was going down," said Mr. Phillips. "We had global forces with local implications affecting our most basic needs forever and no one seemed aware." Phillips and LeClaire were able to produce the book through a grant awarded by the Fulcrum Fund.

Copies of 'The Fracking of Sandoval County’ will be available for $5.00 at the event. There will be opportunities to pick up other literature relating to the efforts to protect the region from fracking and other oil & gas development, and to discuss issues with other community members who are concerned and/or involved.

Sanitary Tortilla Factory, an arts and community space, is located in downtown Albuquerque at 401 – 403 2nd St SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. This event is open to the public.
