Land Arts of the American West

Video Series on Fracking

Land Arts of the American West 2019 artists, along with collaborators Daniel Tso, Samuel Sage, Kendra Pinto, Eileen Shendo, and the Greater Chaco Coalition, present 'In the Air.' This experimental art video was produced and created in the Greater Chaco Region as an artistic response to witnessing the devastating impacts of oil and gas extraction on local communities, climate, ecologies, and the land.

Artists spent a day on the 'Fracking is Fracking Reality Tour' with Daniel Tso and Kendra Pinto, met with Navajo community members Samuel Sage and Marleen Thomas at the Counselor Chapter House, hiked the trails of the Chaco Canyon National Historical Park, gathered with Jemez Pueblo activist, Eileen Shendo, and camped out for over a week in one of the largest natural gas fields in the U.S. where they produced and edited this video.

The artists would like to acknowledge the many Diné, Pueblo, and indigenous people, both past, present, and future whose home and lives are one with these lands.

Many thanks go out to Daniel Tso, Kendra Pinto, Samuel Sage, Eileen Shendo, and Marleen Thomas for meeting with Land Arts of the American West artists and collaborating on this art video.
